Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta at a glance
Piedmont tells a tale of snow capped mountains and powerful wines, industrial cities and cultivated countryside, of the Savoy, the Unification of Italy, and the mysteries of Turin, its capital city.
Ancient dominion of the Savoys, and home to important Italian cites like Turin, Novara and Asti, the region of Piedmont shares borders with France and Switzerland and is surrounded, on three sides, by magnificent mountains.
Piedmont is also home to the marvellously romantic Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, and the Po river which, with its tributaries, creates fascinating configurations across the land. Then there is the enchanting countryside of the Langhe: land of castles, truffles and vineyards, where some of Italy's finest wines are produced.
Valle d'Aosta is a region of immense mountains: the Monte Bianco, Monte Cervino, Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso.
A land of snow capped peaks, silent valleys, which bewitches both winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, and picturesque towns and Alpine villages, such as Courmeyer, Breuil, Grassoney, Cogne and Sestriere.
