Cesena: introduction
Stretching out from the hillside of the Valley of the Savio river as far as the Adriatic Sea, Cesena occupies an extensive territory, from the Ravvenate lowlands to the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines.
Cesena was a prosperous town from the time of the Malatesta dynasty, a prosperity which today can be seen in the many sites to be visited, monuments such as the Sanctuary of the Sacro Cuore di Gesù, the Cathedral of St Giovanni Battista, the Monastery of Santa Maria del Monte, the Church and Convent dellOsservanza, the Renzi Museum and Library, the Malatestiana Library, the Piana Library, the Loggiato Gallery, Palazzo Albornoz, Palazzo del Ridotto, the Contemporary Art Museum l'Immagine, the Alessandro Boncì Theatre.
The surrounding landscape holds many surprises including the National Nature Reserve of the Savio river, the Fornace Marzocchi Park, Cesuola Park, Iqbal Masih Park, Giancarlo Savelli Park and the Serravalle Gardens.
The historic center has a wealth of shops. The most important event held at Cesena is the Fair of St Giovanni.
