VIDEO: Blog on Dale Farm Today
Many people have no idea what Dale Farm looks like now. Where all the families have gone, what the council have done with the land. This is unsurprising given the world’s Media, who descended on Crays Hill in Autumn last year, have largely vanished from the community.
The fact is, as was said all along, the families had nowhere to go. This meant that when violently evicted from their homes on October 19th last year, most families were forced to move onto the road leading up to their old community. With limited electricity, water and basic amenities, ill health has spread rapidly and the children have even less space to enjoy the basic rights that we expect for all. Is anyone honestly arguing that such unsafe conditions would be allowed to continue where it not a community of Travellers?
Basildon Council and their leader Tony Ball continuously repeated that the forced eviction was to ‘reclaim the land for Greenbelt’, but 9 months on the land is in a worse condition due to the Council’s ‘work’, and at local resident’s expense. Watching this video, shot this week, should make you understand why families regularly say they feel like refugees on land that they own. This is how a 21st century Britain government treats it’s Traveller communities.
